Stress-Free Thanksgiving Travel: Tips to Make Your Holiday Smooth

Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and for many families, that means hitting the road or taking to the skies. Travel during the holidays can be stressful, but there are some things you can do to make things go as smoothly as possible.

1. Plan for Busy Airports and Roads

The highways and airports will be jam-packed - all Thanksgiving week, especially on Wednesday and Sunday. Arrive at the airport early, plan your drive at an off-peak time, and try to be as patient as possible.

Remember that lines to check bags and at the TSA will likely be extended. Leave as much time as possible to ensure that you don't miss your flight.

2. Pack Smart and Light

  • Bring only what you need and travel carry-on to avoid checked baggage delays. Consider packing snacks, entertainment for kids, and a portable phone charger.
  • Are you traveling with kids? Check out our Family Travel Planner eBook for a packing checklist and more printable travel sheets!

3. Stay Entertained on the Journey

  • Download movies, audiobooks, or games in advance for long flights or car rides.
  • Bring small travel-friendly games or coloring books to keep the little ones happy.

4. Expect the Unexpected

  • Weather delays and traffic are common—pack some extra patience and flexibility.
  • Consider travel insurance for peace of mind.

What You Need to Know About Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point

Several months ago, Disney Cruise Line introduced a new exclusive cruise port: Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point. Available as a port of call on select Disney Cruise Line sailings in the Bahamas, Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point isn't a private island but a private destination on an existing island (Eleuthera in the Bahamas).

Like Disney's Castaway Cay (a private Disney island), Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point is free for guests. However, there are some up charges, such as excursions, alcohol, merchandise, and cabanas. Only one Disney ship visits Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point at a time.

You'll need to look at the specific sailings to see exactly which itineraries include Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point. Our sailing included a stop at both Castaway Cay and Lookout Cay, but most of the Bahamian/Caribbean cruise itineraries include one or the other.
