Top Tips for Staying Safe in Your Hotel Room

Vacations are meant to be relaxing, so being concerned about safety may not be at the top of your mind. However, you should do a few things when you check into a hotel to ensure you can be as safe as possible during your vacation.

Before you go, consider purchasing some safety items. This item from Amazon includes an extra door lock and an alarm to place under the door. Use them each night when you go to bed.

When you arrive, look for the various escape routes. Did you take the elevator up to your room? Make sure you know where the stairs are and see the best route to get outside in an emergency.

Check all doors to ensure they lock and that the deadbolts work. I've had several instances where the deadbolt didn't work, and I discovered it late in the evening; if there's any issue with the doors, alert maintenance as soon as possible.

If there's a connecting door to another room, check that lock too.

Use the hotel safe for all valuables, including cash, passports, and electronics.

Do not open the room to any unknown people. If you don't expect someone at your door, call the front desk to verify.

Lock all doors when you go to bed.

Always trust your instincts, and contact local law enforcement or the front desk if you have any concerns.
